Detroit Phoenix Center is a nonprofit organization that responds to the needs of underserved and street-connected youth in Detroit. They support young people, ages 13-24, through direct services including a daily drop-in center for young adults, afterschool enrichment programs for teens, youth action board, emergency crisis housing, and a scholarship fund. Detroit Phoenix Center also works diligently for systemic change and contributes to the growing movement to end youth homelessness.

As Detroit Phoenix Center grew, they were in need of a marketing and event planning team to create a cohesive brand and messaging plan that would support their fundraising and community outreach efforts.

Eden Creative Group branded, planned, and executed Detroit Phoenix Center's first annual One Night Without A Bed fundraiser and awareness campaign.

The premise of the end of the year virtual fundraiser was to not only raise funds for Detroit Phoenix Center but to also raise awareness for the cause of youth homelessness by challenging people to "Sleep Out" and spend one night sleeping somewhere other than a bed. This experience was not to emulate homelessness but to participate in the challenge in solidarity with youth working to rise out of homelessness and poverty.

The Virtual Event & Messaging

Youth, parent, and staff testimonials were critical to the success of fundraising. These testimonials were impactful, intimate, and at some points uncomfortable to hear. It was important to us that we didn't cross the very delicate line of exploitation when asking them to participate and share their stories.

Eden Creative Group facilitated the testimonial interviews and video production for event use as well as continued marketing and fundraising efforts.

Website Overhaul

Detroit Phoenix Center needed an updated website with messaging, branding, and features that represented who they were as they grew as an organization.

Impact Report

The design and copywriting of an Impact Report was a fulfilling part of our work with Detroit Phoenix Center. We were able to consolidate all the work that has been done by the organization in the 2019-2020 fiscal year,  into a document that highlights programming and events, the organization's future outlook, and the continued needs of those that Detroit Phoenix Center serves.

Branding & Messaging

One of the most important things to a brand is consistent communication. Tightening up messaging and visuals is critical to elevating any brand.

One important factor in this for Detroit Phoenix Center was leaning into Asset Framing. When your goal is to help better the lives of others, the first thing that has to change is the way you speak about their situation. Being homeless isn't a personality trait, it is a temporary and changeable point in a person's life. So when you change the way you speak about those struggling from calling them "homeless youth" to "youth rising out of homelessness" it makes a difference.

The hope that Asset Framing instills in not only those that you're speaking about but also those looking to donate their time or money to assist them is incredibly valuable..

Community Outreach

Throughout the year, Detroit Pheonix Center hosts community outreach and support events such as their annual Holiday Gift Away event where the families that are members of their organization not only receive items they are in need of, but things that they want as well as hot meals. A key aspect of these events is fostering partnerships that aid in their execution and success.

The 2020 Holiday Gift Away was held outside as a drive-up event due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Detroit Pheonix Center partnered with Footlocker to host the event at their community store on Eight Mile where rapper Trick Trick handed out presents and took pictures with families.
